Based on their home pages alone, it was evident how different the branding is between the two sites. The Indeed homepage is simple and straightforward, with the main focus being placed on the search bar to find jobs. On the other hand, the Looksharp home page features significantly more graphics (with the moving rocket ship!) and the main section of the screen encourages users to create an account. Users are instructed to create one with the in-page form or via Facebook or LinkedIn, signifying how Looksharp expects its users to create an account. On the Looksharp navigation bar, signals for interaction are tabs for jobs, internships, resources, a small search bar, employers, and a log in/sign up button. Underneath the navigation bar there is a large cover picture with a bigger search bar. For the job postings themselves, users are able to add the job to a saved list, hide the company, and view the detailed description of the job. This reinforces the idea that Indeed is primarily focused on helping users find high-level jobs, not so much on cultivating a social and interactive community. Conversely, Looksharp users appear to value its sense of support and community, where users can read guides and blog posts for guidance and advice. So, I turned the main navigational links and content links into circular buttons with alternating UCSD colors. Only four buttons would be displayed at a time, so users would swipe to the left to view the screens with the other buttons. I decided to break up the text into separate sections, which allowed me to put the content that was previously hidden behind side nav links onto the page. What I liked about this particular search feature was the thumbnail next to the suggested results as well as the color-coded icons and category titles underneath them, which corresponded to the categories on the navigation bar. I suppose the intention of this feature is for users to run a highly selective search; however, if the user already knew the specific type of recipe they were looking for, why wouldn’t they just enter it into the search field in the first place? It would be unnecessary for them to go through the extra effort to use this advanced search feature.
